Narragansett Elementary Schoolcurrently enrolls preschool students to fourth grade (Narragansett School System, 2008).Narragansett Elementary is located on 55 Mumford Rd in Narragansett, Rhode Island (Narragansett, 2007). It was built in 1958 and had three additions (Narragansett,2007). One of the additions was done in 1968, one in 1973 and a kindergarten wing in 1995 (Narragansett,2007). The staff of Narragansett Elementary consists of a principal, an assistant principal, and 47 full-time teachers and several part time faculty members, including two reading teachers, an ESL teacher, a school psychologist, two occupational therapists and a physical therapist (Narragansett School System, 2008). There are three secretaries at the main office and five custodians (Narragansett School System, 2008). There are three pre-kindergarten programs, five full-day kindergartens, five first grades, four second grades, four third grades and six fourth grades (Narragansett School System, 2008). Additionally there are four resource teachers and five reading teachers to help the students with their academic struggles (Narragansett School System, 2008). In the following report, the Narragansett Elementary school will be analyzed and compared to other Rhode Island schools. It will touch base on everything from race, school expenditures, and ranking according to the no child left behind act. Narragansett is matching up with some standards, however some areas are lacking. The school prominently consists of Caucasian students and has a small amount of other races (US Census Bureau, 1999).Other minorities only make up of 9% of the student population(National Center on Public Education and Social Policy). This concludes that the school is not very diverse, which may lead the kids to singling out other races. This report will be useful to any parent thinking about enrolling their child in this school, or any teacher who is planning on coming to the school. This report will help them decide whether or not they would e satisfied with sending their child there or teaching there. It will also give teachers knowledge on what they should expect and what they should help the school improve on when they begin work.
Community Background
The Following paragraph will give insight about the communities background, including race, income data, and poverty levels. The community consists of 16,511 people (“Narragansett town, Washington County, Rhode Island - QT-P5. Race Alone or in Combination: 2000”). In the community 97% of the 16,511 people are white (“NTWC, RI - QT-P5, 2000”). Other minorities therefore only make up for 3% of the community (“NTWC, RI - QT-P5, 2000”). Even though the percentage of minorities in Rhode Island is very low, Narragansett has a very small amount of the already small amount of minorities. The vast difference in the amount of whites and minorities could lead to the kids eventually singling out those who are a minority. This is possible because as young kids they will see that the kids of minority are "different" from them. The median household income in Narragansett is $50,363 this is around the average income of Rhode Island residents. However the average family income is higher then the median Rhode Island family income and significantly higher then the median United States family income by almost $10,000. Narragansett's per income capita is $28,194, which is fairly high . The per capita income for Narragansett is also around $3000 dollars higher then both Rhode Island and the United States. The percentage of families below poverty level in Narragansett is 4.9%, and in Rhode Island it is 7.8%, which shows that there are less families below poverty level in Narragansett than there may be in other towns. However, the individuals that are below poverty level is significantly higher than that of the percentage of Rhode Island and the United States (US Census Bureau, 1999). This could mean that there must be a vast amount of people in different social classes since, there is a higher median income yet still a high amount of people in poverty, which means that there has to be a lot of wealthier people to help bring that amount up.

The number of students in Narragansett is 1,514.In addition to the students receiving better education, the teacher to student ratio is 1:8, which means that there are smaller classes which help students get more one-on-one time with their teachers. The teacher to student ratio is better then what the median Rhode Island school receives . Narragansett also provides more General Education expenditures then the median of other Rhode Island schools. This shows that more of the money they receive actually go toward the children. Narragansett by far spends the most money on General Education, Special Education, Career and Technical learning, and English Language Learners. This showcases that Narragansett thinks it is very important for their students to receive adequate learning above anything else, and more then that of other Rhode Island schools. The amount of money the school puts into the programs it gives may be a result of a higher tax price for living in the area. Since Narragansett puts more money into Special Ed and English Language learners programs this also may showcase that there is a greater demand in Narragansett for Special Ed. teachers and a greater amount of non-English speaking students. The per-pupil expenditure is $16,082 in Narragansett. The per-pupil expenditure in all of Rhode island is $12,700 . This may be a result of a higher district tax in Narragansett than other cities in Rhode Island. The amount of money spent on special education is also significantly higher than what Rhode Island spends. This may be a result of the school having larger special education needs, and a larger group of people in special education. The Narragansett career and technical education program like the others also spends a lot more money than that of Rhode Island by almost $15,00. This may be a result of a lot of students enrolling in this program. Finally the amount spent in Narragansett for English language learners is also significantly higher. This also may be a result of many students enrolling that need to learn English as a second language. In conclusion Narragansett spends a significant amount more in expenditures in all of the areas then Rhode Island does (National Center on Public Education and Social Policy, 2007).
School Analysis
The following paragraph will give insightful information on only Narragansett Elementary school. It will provide information on the race percentages, total expenditures and revenues of the school. It will also explain about how the school scores in its SALT reports. Narragansett Elementary has mostly white students. There is a very small portion that are minorities. The minority population only consists of 9% of the whole student population. There is also 13% of students receiving subsidized lunches. This means that the amount of children whose parents that cannot afford to pay for lunch is fairly small compared to other schools in Rhode Island. There is a very small amount of students in Narragansett Elementary that need to receive help with learning English as a second language. However at the high school level the need for ESL services is higher. This means that the number of people who move to Narragansett in the high school level have come from other countries. There is also a small amount of students receiving special education as being self contained. However the percentage of students receiving Special Education services who just need supports is 11% which would explain why they may put more money into their Special Education programs. The schools SALT reports are very low. Most schools scored within the 3 range or higher range of 2's. However Narragansett's scores were all around 1.9 out of 5. this shows that the students need more disciplinary action and need to be taught how to behave and the school needs to set higher standards. Both the negative student interactions and disciplinary harshness were exempt on the SALT report for the school(National Center on Public Education and Social Policy).

Conclusion
Overall, the Narragansett district is very well funded and gives a number of opportunities to its students. However, Narragansett Elementary needs to improve on their SALT reports. There is a sufficient amount of revenue and funding that is poured into the schools and their programs, which will lead to kids having a better opportunity to do better in school, and get a better learning experience with more advanced and up-to-date materials. The District also funds multiple programs for students to be able to get extra help in areas they need it in, and give them options that will help for their futures. There is not a variety of minorities in the school and it is mostly made of Caucasian students. In the community the median for household and family incomes is fairly high compared to other areas. The poverty rate however, is somewhat higher. Overall thought the district gives its students a number of opportunities and good quality education, however the Elementary school does need to improve on certain areas such as the SALT reports.
